Maya Stano is a Vancouver-based partner and leader of the firm’s national Environmental Law Practice Group. Her practice focuses on environmental, Indigenous, natural resource and construction law. She acts on matters including environmental impact assessments, the carbon credit regime, land rights, permitting, natural resource development, major infrastructure projects, regulatory compliance and ESG. Maya provides advice at all stages of a project's lifecycle, from planning through construction, operations and final closure, decommissioning and reclamation. She has represented the interests of both private companies and Indigenous Nations in relation to a range of projects including those in the tourism, mining, forestry, energy, oil & gas and nuclear sectors. She also assists in negotiations between Indigenous Nations, provincial and federal governments and proponents on natural resource projects and other activities. Maya also works with Indigenous Nations on various government-related matters, including drafting laws and bylaws, managing land use and rights on reserve, and working with land codes and other governance matters. Prior to practising law, Maya worked as a professional geological engineer. She has been recognized in Chambers Canada and The Best Lawyers in Canada.
