Joan is a partner at Cambridge LLP, a law firm in Toronto, Ontario. She practises in the business litigation, cross-border litigation, and constitutional advocacy groups at Cambridge LLP. She has appeared at various levels of court including the Ontario Superior Court, Divisional Court and the Court of Appeals for Ontario, New Brunswick and British Columbia. In addition, Joan has been involved in complex multi-jurisdictional litigation addressing both public and private international law. Some of Joan’s reported decisions include: Benzacar v. Terk 2023 ONCA 77, Tsui v. Zuoqi 2022 ONCA 464, 2021 ONSC 5421, Canadian Snowbird Assn v. Attorney General of Ontario 2020 ONSC 4607, Pall v. Chughtai 2018 ONSC 7134. In 2020, Joan was elected to the Canadian Council on International Law (CCIL) Board of Directors. She is on the Annual Conference Committee for the CCIL and is involved in planning the organization’s largest annual event. In 2020 she also received the African Scholar Award from the University of Toronto, African Alumni Association. Joan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and Political Science (minor in French) from the University of Toronto. Joan obtained a JD from the U of Toronto Faculty of Law and thereafter an LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School.
