Patrick Roszell is a principal in Smart & Biggar’s Toronto office. With experience counselling clients on the creation, protection, and management of IP rights, he has a track record of helping clients secure IP assets that create strategic opportunities. His clients trust his pragmatic approach to delivering commercially valuable and cost-effective solutions. He focuses on patent prosecution and strategy, including drafting patent applications, preparing and advising on IP agreements, and providing patentability, infringement, and freedom to operate opinions. He has experience in power generation, manufacturing, oil and gas, and mining. His practice has covered a range of technologies including computer hardware and software, telecommunications, aerospace, and medical devices. Before his legal career, he gained valuable client perspective as an engineer in the oil and gas and automotive industries. He has been named a "Rising Star in Patents" by Euromoney LMG, a "Leading Patent Prosecution Practitioner" by IAM Patent 1000 - The World's Leading Patent Professionals, and a "WIPR Leader" by World IP Review Leaders. He has been an IPIC fellow, a CBA and TIPG Member, a holder of a BSc and LLB, and a registered patent and trademark agent. He was called to the Ontario bar in 2010.
