Robert Sheahan is chair of Gowling WLG's Professional Liability Department, providing strategic leadership for the firm’s Canadian insurance & professional liability and medical defence practices. He previously served as the Head of the firm’s Ottawa Advocacy Department. Certified as a Specialist in Health Law (LSO), Robb practises health law and professional liability and acts as co-General Counsel to the Canadian Medical Protection Association. He has appeared before the Ontario Provincial Court, Superior Court of Justice, Court of Appeal as well as health professions boards and commercial tribunals. He served as an instructor with the Osgoode LLM Health Law Program and has been a guest lecturer at the University of Ottawa Faculties of Law and Medicine. In addition to being an editor of the Electronic Healthcare Law Review (LexisNexis Canada), Robb has authored numerous papers on topics ranging from privacy considerations and personal healthcare records to limiting non-pecuniary damages. He has been recognized in Chambers Canada and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory. In 2017, 2020, 2023 and 2025, Robb was named Best LawyersHealth Care Law “Lawyer of the Year” in Ottawa. He was named Best Lawyers 2023 Medical Negligence "Lawyer of the Year" in Ottawa.
