Robert Sheahan is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office practising in health law and solicitors’ negligence and currently serving as Head of the Advocacy Department in Ottawa. Certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Health Law, Robert acts as General Counsel to the Canadian Medical Protection Association. He has been recognized in Chambers Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory, and The Best Lawyers in Canada. In 2017 and again in 2020, Robert was recognized in Best Lawyers in Canada as Lawyer of the Year for Health Care Law – Ottawa. He is currently an honorary member of the Executive of the National Health Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association. He is an instructor at the Osgoode Hall LLM Health Law Program and has been a guest lecturer at the University of Ottawa Faculties of Law and Medicine. He also presents before groups including the American Bar Association, the International Bar Association, and the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. In addition to being an editor of the Electronic Healthcare Law Review (LexisNexis Canada), Robert has authored numerous papers on topics ranging from privacy considerations and personal health-care records to limiting non-pecuniary damages.
