Roberto Aburto is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office. A member of the firm’s national Municipal Law Group and Expropriation Law Groups, Roberto practises municipal law, administrative law and civil litigation. He represents clients in a variety of property development disputes, including those involving real property, land use planning, expropriation and municipal tax assessment. Roberto represents all sides of the development industry, including developers, municipalities, municipal councillors and community organizations. He has appeared before all levels of Ontario courts as well as various administrative tribunals including the Ontario Land Tribunal and the Assessment Review Board. Roberto sits as the regional representative for Eastern Ontario on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Expropriation Association and is a member of various other legal and industry associations. In 2019, Roberto was named a Lexpert Zenith Award winner in recognition of his work promoting the principles of diversity & inclusion and in 2020, he was distinguished as an Excellence Award Recipient for the "Pro Bono Gender Markers Initiative" at the Canadian Law Awards. In 2021, Roberto was named one of Ottawa’s “Forty under 40” by the Ottawa Business Journal and the Ottawa Board of Trade.
