Sandra Gogal is nationally recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada and in Chambers Global for Aboriginal, Environmental Law and Mining. She is the co-lead of Miller Thomson’s Aboriginal Law Group, and lead of the firm’s Cannabis Industry Group. Focusing on regulatory compliance, she provides legal and strategic advice to the industry with respect to project development, primarily in the mining, hydro, nuclear and pipeline sectors. Specializing in aboriginal and environmental law, she has negotiated development and impact agreements with First Nations and Metis, including settlements for past developments in excess of $100 million and is qualified as an expert witness on implementing consultation and accommodation in Canada. Sandra directs and Chairs the Osgoode Certificate Program in Aboriginal Law, and is frequently sought to speak internationally. As lead for the firm's National Cannabis Industry Group, she advises cannabis companies on regulatory matters for operating in Canada, including requirements for the cultivation, sale and distribution of medical and recreational cannabis in Canada, with a view to emerging markets. She has also acted for foreign governments in drafting and implementing cannabis legislation. Sandra is called in Newfoundland and Labrador and Ontario.
