Partner in the Toronto office and co-head of the firm’s Structured Finance and Securitization group. Simon’s practice focuses primarily on structured finance. Extensive experience in residential and commercial mortgage financing, including RMBS and CMBS, and cross-border receivables financing transactions. Simon regularly acts for a cross-section of market participants including investment banks, dealers, specialty finance lenders, private equity, and credit funds, ABCP conduits, asset originators and issuers. Simon is very active in creating and structuring innovative financial solutions for clients across a variety of asset classes including energy efficient equipment transactions, managed equipment service structures for Canadian hospitals, and flow lending transactions for Canadian specialty lenders. Previous experience includes three years in London, UK, practising with a prominent US firm in the area of structured finance. Named one of Lexpert’s 2007 Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 in Canada. Admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1996.
As part of the continuing transformation of its business since its spin-off from Element Financial, Steve Hudson’s ECN Capital Corp. [TSX: ECN] completed the acquisition of Triad Financial Services in December 2017 and sold its Canadian commercial and vendor finance business to Canadian Western Bank in January 2018.
On June 29, 2009, Ford Credit Canada Limited (FCCL) completed a retail loan securitization transaction, receiving proceeds of $0.6 billion. In order to carry out the transaction, Ford Auto Securitization Trust, a newly established master trust sponsored by FCCL, purchased a pool of retail conditional sale contracts from FCCL.
