A partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office, Stéphane Caron’s practice focuses on copyright, trademarks and personality rights. Stéphane provides strategic advice to a broad range of clients from entertainment companies and software businesses to manufacturers of motor vehicles, clothing and other consumer goods. He also regularly advises public sector and not-for-profit organizations, including government departments, Crown corporations and professional associations. Stéphane represents clients before the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Trademark Opposition Board. A former chair of the firm's Copyright National Practice Group, he has extensive experience in advising clients on copyright policy and related regulatory issues. Currently, he is chair of the International Copyright Laws Committee of the American Bar Association and co-chair of the Ottawa Chapter of the Copyright Society of the United States. Stéphane taught copyright law at the University of Ottawa from 1998 to 2019. He has been recognized in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, The Best Lawyers in Canada and named an “Acritas Star” in 2020.
