Teresa Dufort is a partner in McMillan LLP's Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group, and a senior practitioner in the firm's Product Liability Defence, Regulatory, and Class Action Groups. Teresa's practice is heavily focused on product liability defence and product safety related regulatory issues. She acts as the prime Canadian counsel to numerous Canadian, American, European, and Asian manufacturers and distributors of consumer, commercial and industrial products. She has extensive experience defending class actions and both individual and B2B product liability lawsuits involving a broad range of consumer, commercial and industrial products. She is Canada’s leading authority on the regulatory requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act and the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (vehicle and engine emissions) and an expert in the requirements of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act and other safety-related regulatory regimes affecting consumer and commercial products. She has extensive experience dealing with agencies such as Transport Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Health Canada, and Ontario’s Technical Standards & Safety Authority and Electrical Safety Authority. Teresa was McMillan LLP’s CEO and managing partner from 2016 to 2021.
