Bill Fowlis is a partner in Miller Thomson’s Corporate Tax Group with a CPA, CA, TEP and FEA background. His practice focuses on taxation, corporate, trusts and estates law, and tax planning for and implementation of M&A transactions. Bill was appointed King’s Counsel and awarded a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants designation in 2014. He is listed in Lexpert as one of Canada's leading tax practitioners, in The Best Lawyers in Canada for tax law and trusts and estates, and in Chambers High Net Worth Guide for private wealth law. He is a published author, a frequent presenter and was a lecturer for income tax courses for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta. He has been a central figure with the national region and Calgary branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners Canada, including having served on the STEP Canada board and as chair in Calgary. He also served as an elected representative of STEP Canada on the STEP Worldwide Council for six years and he currently serves as chair of the STEP Worldwide Governance Committee, and in 2015 received the STEP Founder’s Award. Bill is an associate member of CALU and a member of The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law.
