McCarthy Tétrault LLP has announced the appointment of Terri‑Lee Oleniuk – an environmental and regulatory lawyer who focuses on project‑related issues regarding natural resource development – as a Calgary-based partner in the firm’s business law group.

“Her arrival further strengthens our Calgary office and our national energy and infrastructure offering,” said Brett Anderson, McCarthy Tétrault’s regional managing partner for Alberta, in a news release.

“Her experience aligns closely with our clients’ needs in Western Canada and across our national platform,” added Richard O’Doherty, partner and co‑leader of the firm’s business law group.

With an emphasis on regulatory, environmental, and Indigenous law, Oleniuk’s work has covered the complete lifecycle of projects, including early‑stage approvals, hearings, investigations, and strategic regulatory advice.

Matthew Cumming, partner and co‑leader of the business law group, explained that Oleniuk has dealt with “major projects in energy, power and infrastructure, particularly those requiring sophisticated regulatory strategy and meaningful Indigenous engagement.”

In environmental assessments and regulatory proceedings, Oleniuk has helped proponents and developers obtain approvals for oil and gas, pipeline, liquefied natural gas, mining, midstream, petrochemical, electricity transmission, hydroelectric, solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects.

“I am excited to join McCarthy Tétrault and to collaborate with colleagues across the Firm in support of clients navigating complex regulatory and project‑related challenges,” Oleniuk said.

Within the power market, she has assisted clients with conventional and renewable generation projects alike. Beyond her regulatory work, she has handled agreements with Indigenous groups for her clients and negotiated complex commercial arrangements for project developers.

Oleniuk has acted for clients in toll and tariff matters, regulatory investigations, and inquiries before administrative tribunals. She has also offered strategic guidance on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations for infrastructure and energy mandates.
