Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP has expanded its partnership by hiring George Antonopoulos and Mauryah McLaughlin for its energy group in Calgary.
Both were partners at Dentons Calgary. According to LinkedIn, Antonopoulos was the firm's national and global energy sector lead for Canada, while McLaughlin focused on private mergers and acquisitions.
Antonopoulos concentrates on complex private M&A in the energy sector. He has advised on energy infrastructure project structuring, ownership, and operation.
He has handled matters involving joint venture arrangements, commodity transportation, terminalling and storage arrangements, corporate reorganizations, and energy project development. He has worked on issues across the full energy project lifecycle: early-stage development, permitting, construction, financing, and exit.
Antonopoulos’ clients include upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas companies. He was lead counsel to Vermilion Energy as it acquired Westbrick Energy Ltd. for $1.075 billion via a plan of arrangement. He also assisted Saturn Oil and Gas Inc. in acquiring Veren Inc. assets for $525 million and recapitalizing its debt.
Moreover, he helped Cenovus Energy to form the Duvernay Energy Corp joint venture with Athabasca Oil Corp. Lexpert recognized him as a top lawyer in the oil and gas industry.
Mauryah McLaughlin
McLaughlin concentrates on M&A, spearheading complex, high-value domestic and international transactions. She has worked across the health care, real estate/land assets, senior living, technology, and hospitality sectors.
She has served as lead counsel on cross-border, multi-jurisdictional transactions. Her clients have included United Active Living and Mattr Corp. She assisted the former in its acquisition of three senior living homes in Calgary and was lead counsel for the latter in its US$280 million acquisition of AmerCable Incorporated.
McLaughlin assisted Enbridge Inc. on aspects of the Saskatchewan-based 200MW wind project Seven Stars Energy, which was established with a consortium comprising First Nation communities and Métis people. She also advised the GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment-Pathfinder Clean Energy partnership on the sale of the Joffre solar project in Alberta to Concord Green Energy.
