The Digital Governance Standards Institute (DGSI) has announced that it is working to develop a new standard, the Data Governance Framework for Healthcare Organizations (DGSI/PAS 142), to promote trust, privacy, and accountability in healthcare data.
With funding from the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), the project will focus on data management governance, the fifth issue of SCC’s Canadian Data Governance Standardization Collaborative Roadmap.
According to DGSI’s news release, the standards development project will deliver a publicly available specification (PAS) with a detailed framework that includes governance structures, key processes within the data lifecycle, and an implementation roadmap for phased adoption and maturity growth.
The PAS will aim to assist healthcare organizations in adopting consistent, robust, adaptable, and context-appropriate data governance practices across healthcare settings. It will seek to help such organizations:
- Clearly define roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities for effective data stewardship
- Balance risk management priorities such as privacy, security, and ethical data use with operational efficiency and data quality
- Ensure that governance practices follow the relevant healthcare regulations
- Develop sustainable governance operating models with measurable outcomes
Call for review panel members
DGSI explained that the members of the review panel for the standards development project will be instrumental in designing the PAS by offering their technical knowledge, reviewing drafts, and ensuring that the specification can meet practical and real-world needs throughout the country’s healthcare ecosystem.
In its news release, DGSI invited subject matter experts, stakeholders, and interested individuals and organizations who are well-versed in the following areas of focus to be part of the review panel:
- healthcare data governance and management
- privacy, security, and regulatory compliance
- clinical data systems and health information management
- risk management and organizational governance
- digital health policy and standards development
DGSI added that those seeking to contribute can express their interest by sending it an email that includes a brief description of their expertise and interest in the relevant subject matter.
