The Canadian Transport Lawyers Association has appointed Trimac senior legal counsel Pui Hong as its new president.
Hong succeeds Miller Thomson partner Jaclyne Reive in the role. The announcement was made at the CTLA’s AGM and Educational Conference which took place in Victoria, British Columbia last month.
As president, Hong will spend the next year concentrating on boosting membership, improving transport lawyers’ industry knowledge, and planning the CTLA’s 2026 AGM and Educational Conference.
“Pui’s election as president is testament to her dedication to transportation law and safety, and it is nice to see that this is recognized by the CTLA. Not only is she the best person for the job, but she’s also a great representative for Trimac and for female lawyers across Canada,” Trimac chief legal officer Grant Borbridge said in a statement.
Hong joined the organization in 2019. Since then, she has served as communications director, treasurer, and most recently vice president and secretary.
She has been a corporate trust officer for Computershare Canada and Northern Frontier Corp’s general counsel. As a private practitioner, she was a lawyer at Gowling WLG.
Hong began her stint with Trimac in 2018. She obtained her law degree from the California Western School of Law and also holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Calgary.
She has been serving as a volunteer lawyer to low-income individuals for the evening clinic at Calgary Legal Guidance since October 2015, per LinkedIn.
At present, the CTLA leadership team consist of Reive, Hong, McCarthy Tétrault partner Brian Lipson (treasurer), and Metcalf & Company partner Seamus Ryder (communications director).
The CTLA is a non-profit organization run by volunteers. It provides Canadian and American legal practitioners with continuing legal education via papers and panel discussions. It also serves as a networking forum for transportation lawyers.
At the CTLA’s 2025 AGM and Educational Conference, Hong had spoken on a panel centered on the topic of equity, diversity and inclusion in the transportation and logistics industry.
