The Liquor Control Board of Ontario has appointed Sacha Fraser as its new chief legal officer, responsible for supervising its legal and procurement teams.
She will work with LCBO’s president and CEO George Soleas, the executive team, and the board of directors on all legal matters. She will also be the corporate secretary to the board and its committee; in addition, she will manage procurement services.
Fraser hails from IBM Canada, where she was general counsel and corporate secretary. She headed up a national legal and regulatory affairs team at the company and helped IBM Canada to navigate complex legal landscapes and drive legal operations transformation through artificial intelligence automation; she also backed strategic growth initiatives across the business.
She has gleaned executive leadership experience from working in the technology, services, and legal industries for over 25 years, including a stint at Xerox Canada where she was general counsel, corporate secretary, and chief privacy officer.
As a private practitioner, Fraser was part of McCarthy Tétrault’s litigation group.
“In addition to her background and expertise, Sacha has led teams through many complex transformations, making her a valuable addition to my leadership team as we continue our modernization journey,” Soleas said in a statement.
The LCBO engaged recruitment firm LHH Knightbridge to assist with Fraser’s appointment. The new CLO will collaborate with a senior leadership team that in addition to Soleas includes Aaron Campbell (chief of staff and vice president, corporate affairs, strategy and sustainability), chief financial officer Becky Hong, chief marketing and digital officer Vanda Provato, chief retail officer John Summers, chief supply chain officer Nick Nanos, chief people officer Francinne Hansen, and IT and chief information officer Geoff Cronin.
The LCBO board is led by chair Carmine Nigro. Other board members include technology committee chair David Colfer, governance committee chair Mina Mawani, audit committee chair Kathleen Novak, Hartley Lefton, Sean Martin, Dragan Matovic, Alison Matthews, Khamini Samsundar, and James Scongack.
