Borden Ladner Gervais LLP has appointed mergers and acquisitions and capital markets partner Tim McCormick as its national M&A and corporate transactions practice chair.

McCormick leads the practice, driving its growth and national integration as well as improving its market position. Moreover, he chairs the firm’s national M&A strategy committee, which consists of senior leaders across Canada.

He reports directly to national managing partner and CEO David Di Paolo.

“Our M&A practice is a core strength of the firm and this appointment reflects our commitment to driving its continued momentum. Tim has a proven track record of excellence, the market profile and strategic acumen to build on our strong foundation and accelerate our national capabilities. He is the right person to lead this practice forward,” Di Paolo said of the appointment.

Based in Toronto, McCormick has worked with the likes of Raymond James, Fortune Brand, Deere, Loblaw, and SNC Lavalin. He assisted Guardian Capital with its $1.67 billion go-private with Desjardins; moreover, he advised RFA as it combined its business with Artis REIT to birth schedule 1 bank RFA Financial. He guided RFA Financial’s TSX listing as well.

He helped Telesat with the $2.54 billion funding agreement for its Lightspeed LEO constellation. He also advised exactEarth on its acquisition by Spire Global and the spinout following COM DEV’s purchase by Honeywell.

McCormick worked with VersaBank on its amalgamation with PWC Capital under the Bank Act, on its US initial public offering, and several acquisitions. He advised IoM Media as it acquired a major animation studio from DHX Media and assisted Sirius XM Canada with debt offerings.

He has tackled non-investment grade offerings and large and small equity offerings. The Lexpert-ranked lawyer was previously the regional group manager at BLG.

“BLG has stacked together very strong years, advising on a number of Canada’s most complex M&A and infrastructure transactions. This track record is the foundation for our formidable national platform, deep bench of talent and strong domestic and international client relationships. My focus is on further integrating those established strengths so our clients can seamlessly access the full depth of what this firm delivers,” McCormick said.
