Former Atlas Salt Inc. chief financial officer Alasdair Federico commenced as Gold Candle Ltd.’s vice president and general counsel on October 1.
He joins the Canadian exploration company’s executive leadership team. He will oversee Gold Candle’s legal and compliance matters and will serve as the board of directors’ corporate secretary.
Moreover, Federico will handle human resources and public affairs at the company.
“Alasdair’s skill sets are extremely complimentary to those of our existing senior leadership team, and I look forward to partnering with him as we continue to advance one of the largest undeveloped gold projects in Canada located in the prolific Abitibi region,” said Rick Howes, Gold Candle’s chief executive officer, in a statement.
Prior to his stint as Atlas Salt’s CFO, Federico was Lake Shore Gold Corp.’s vice-president, general counsel and corporate secretary. He was also Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd.’s executive vice president of corporate affairs and social responsibility.
He served as general counsel at SATO, director of the Ontario Mining Association, and an independent legal consultant. As a private practitioner, he logged a stint as an associate at McCarthy Tétrault LLP.
Federico obtained his LLB in law from Western University in 2001. He also holds a bachelor of commerce in finance and economics from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, per LinkedIn.
In addition to Federico and Howes, the rest of Gold Candle’s leadership team consists of Leon LeBlanc (president and COO), Hannes Portman (CFO), and Dean Crick (vice president of exploration). Pierre Lassonde is the executive chairman of Gold Candle’s board.
Gold Candle is a privately funded company working towards a targeted initial public offering next year. It was established by Michael Berns, who is currently a board director. The board includes lead director Ebe Scherkus and members Jaime Hartman, Ethan Benovitz, Louise Grondin, Geoffrey Belsher, and Michael Jalonen.
