The Association of Corporate Counsel is set to tackle cross-border compliance and legal issues with the launch of its artificial intelligence think tank, the ACC AI Center of Excellence for In-House Counsel.
The initiative aims to provide coordinated legal advice to corporate lawyers on AI-related legal concerns involving intellectual property, data privacy, liability, and ethical considerations. It will collate strategic guidance, compliance frameworks, and best practices into one hub.
The center has four key sections:
- In-house lawyers - targeted towards coaching individuals on the application of AI to tasks like legal research and contract review to raise productivity and efficiency
- Law department - concentrates on helping legal departments integrate AI into the legal function's broader operations
- The enterprise - addresses enterprise-wide risks, opportunities, and strategic roadmaps to help in-house counsel guide and lead their organizations on AI transformation
- The legal profession - covers transparency, intellectual property, and human oversight to drive responsible AI practices upholding legal ethics and human judgment
The center collaborated with technology companies, law firms, and member organizations to address legal needs and practical business reality.
"As businesses increasingly rely on in-house legal teams to not only manage legal risk but also to guide strategic, ethical AI implementation, the center provides the knowledge, guidance, and peer-driven insights necessary for success," ACC president and CEO Veta T. Richardson said in a statement.
The center provides peer-to-peer learning and shared use cases. It will pull insights and updates from the ACC's international network of corporate legal experts.
"Our vision for the ACC AI Center of Excellence is to serve as the premier resource where in-house legal professionals can explore real-world use cases, gain actionable insights, and learn best practices from leading legal departments across the globe," said ACC global board member Shannon Klinger, who is Moderna's chief legal officer and corporate secretary.
