Philippe Lucet has been named general counsel and corporate secretary at fintech company DeFi Technologies Inc., succeeding Kenny Choi.
In this role, Lucet will supervise DeFi Technologies' legal, corporate governance, and regulatory matters. He transitions from exchange traded products issuer and DeFi Technologies’ wholly owned subsidiary Valour, where he is general counsel.
DeFi Technologies chairman and chief executive officer Johan Wattenström highlighted Lucet’s experience across different areas.
“Philippe brings deep global legal leadership across highly regulated and innovation driven industries. His experience spanning corporate governance, regulatory, strategy, innovation and intellectual property, combined with his existing leadership at Valour, positions him well to support our continued growth and execution across markets,” Wattenström said in a statement.
Lucet was previously group general counsel at Geneva-based SITA, where he managed its legal, regulatory, and compliance matters. He also co-founded and is the chief legal officer of Rainfall, according to LinkedIn.
He logged a stint at Salans/Dentons as an attorney at law, focusing on corporate law, investments, innovation, and intellectual property. He was lead legal counsel (brand and e-commerce) at Richemont International.
Lucet was once Nestlé's vice president and general counsel for research and development and intellectual property. In this role, he operated from the company’s global headquarters and led a team overseeing patents, trademarks, digital, legal R&D, and health science. Moreover, he was chief legal officer at Biostarks Laboratories and spent five years with Silicon Valley Blockchain Society as general counsel and board secretary.
He sits on the board of BTQ and was once on NetComm Suisse Association’s board. He was previously advisor to the managing director at French rock music festival Eurockéennes de Belfort.
Lucet lectured in law at the University of Paris. He received a master of laws from Stanford University and holds a master’s degree in international affairs (finance and banking) from Columbia University.
