RIM Acquires Ascendent Telecommunications

On March 10, 2006, Research In Motion Limited (RIM) announced that it acquired Ascendent Telecommunications, Inc. for an undisclosed amount through a reverse triangular merger, in which Ascendent became a wholly-owned subsidiary of RIM. Ascendent is a leading provider of software solutions that extend corporate desk phone functionality to mobile users on their wireless handset or any wireline phone.

The RIM team was led by Karima Bawa, vice-president - legal, Naseem Rana, commercial counsel, Randy Mishler, senior licensing counsel, Tom Lo, commercial counsel, Laurence Prystawski, IP counsel, and Stephen Whitney, commercial counsel, together with external counsel McCarthy Tétrault LLP, Canadian securities counsel Wildeboer Dellelce LLP, US securities counsel Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, and US corporate counsel Dorsey & Whitney LLP.
