Scotia Capital and TD Securities Create Capital Markets Platform

Scotia Capital Inc. and TD Securities Inc. created a capital markets platform to finance the $850 million purchase by AltaLink LP of the power transmission assets from TransAlta Corp., which closed on April 29, 2002.

Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP represented Scotia Capital and TD Securities, with a team that included Monica Biringer, Jean Fraser, John MacFarlane, Kevin Scott and George Valentini. Oslers susbsequently acted for The Bank of Nova Scotia in negotiating and finalizing a $185 million working capital and capex credit facility to be used by AltaLink in the operation and expansion of its power transmission business in Alberta, which was completes in May 10, 2001.

Allan Nielsen Q.C., John Tyrell and Julio Arboleda of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP acted for AltaLink. Adam Delean, Cameron Koziskie and john Toffoletto of Torys LLP represented the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board who provided AltaLink with the bridge financing on closing.
