Iris is a litigation Partner with experience ranging from complex commercial disputes to white collar crime, class actions, constitutional and regulatory matters. Iris regularly acts for media organizations on free expression and court openness matters, including opposing publication bans and getting access to court documents. She has extensive experience defending defamation claims, including at trial, and was co-counsel at the Supreme Court of Canada in Grant v. Torstar, the case that established the defence of responsible communication in Canada. Iris also provides pre-publication advice to media organizations and book publishers. Iris advises clients on freedom of information and privacy matters, as well as quasi-criminal matters, such as responding to search warrants and production orders and Canadian anti-corruption laws. Iris has appeared as counsel at all levels of courts in Ontario, the Supreme Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Canada, as well as before administrative tribunals, arbitration panels and inquests. Iris is a member of The Advocates' Society, Ad Idem (Advocates in Defence of Free Expression)/Canadian Media Lawyers Association and the Civil Litigation and the Constitutional, Civil Liberties and Human Rights Law Sections of the OBA.
