Seumas is a senior partner in the Blakes Litigation Group, and is co-chair of the firm's International Dispute Resolution Group. He has a varied corporate-commercial law practice. His practice encompasses acting and advising in respect of many different types of disputes in a wide mix of industries. Among the matters on which he has acted are securities and shareholder disputes, transactional securities litigation, construction disputes, mining disputes, general commercial disputes, landlord-tenant matters, gaming-related claims, franchise and distributorship disputes, personal injury claims and estate and trust matters. Seumas has appeared as counsel before all levels of courts and tribunals in Ontario, as well as in numerous arbitrations and mediations. He brings with him a strong knowledge of the law, as well as a practical, common sense approach to legal problems.

On November 1, 2017, The Washington Cos. (Washington), a group of privately held North American mining, industrial and transportation businesses founded by industrialist and entrepreneur Dennis R. Washington, completed its acquisition of Dominion Diamond Corp. (Dominion) for approximately $1.5 billion.
On May 25, 2017, Sirius XM Canada Holdings Inc. completed its statutory plan of arrangement whereby all its shares were acquired by a corporation, 2517835 Ontario Inc., owned by Slaight Communications Inc., Obelysk Media Inc. and Sirius XM Radio Inc. Sirius XM Canada Holdings also announced that it will be redeeming all of its outstanding 5.625 per cent senior unsecured notes due April 23, 2021, at a redemption price equal to 102.813 per cent of the principal amount of the Existing Notes plus accrued and unpaid interest.
On March 21, 2016, Suncor Energy Inc. (Suncor) completed its acquisition of Canadian Oil Sands Limited (COS). The transaction began as an unsolicited take-over bid made by Suncor on October 5, 2015, under which Suncor offered 0.25 of a Suncor share for each COS share, and was subsequently completed following the signing of a Support Agreement by Suncor and COS on January 17, 2016, pursuant to which Suncor agreed to increase its offer price to 0.28 of a Suncor share for each COS share, with the amended offer supported by the COS board of directors.
On May 20, 2015, BCE Inc. (BCE) and Rogers Communications Inc. (Rogers) completed their acquisition of GLENTEL Inc. (GLENTEL), a Canadian-based multi-carrier mobile products distributor.
On February 13, 2007, Harbinger Capital Partners Master Fund I, Ltd. and Harbinger Capital Partners Special Situations Fund, L.P. through their indirect wholly owned subsidiary HCP Acquisition Inc. (together, Harbinger) acquired all of the outstanding trust units of Calpine Power Income Fund (the fund) it did not already own at a price of $13.00 per trust unit for total consideration of approximately $760 million.
