Chair of the firm’s Pensions & Benefits Department. Paul has over 30 years’ experience advising public and private sector organizations on a variety of legal and compliance issues in relation to their pension and benefit plans. Has extensive experience advising on plan funding, fiduciary responsibilities, governance, compliance, benefits administration, conversions, pension litigation, pension fund investments, plan wind-ups, surplus utilization and the pension/benefits aspects of corporate transactions. Serves as Board counsel and advisor to several jointly sponsored pension plans in Ontario. Has published numerous articles for industry publications, including International Pension Lawyer and Benefits Canada, on a variety of pension/benefits subjects. A regular lecturer at continuing education and pension industry programs, including the Lancaster House, CPBI, ACPM and IFEBP conferences. Past Chair of ACPM’s National Policy Committee. Member of Ontario’s Financial Services Tribunal from 2002–10. Recognized as a leading practitioner in pensions & employee benefits by The Best Lawyers in Canada, Who’s Who Legal, Acritas Stars, The Legal 500 and Chambers Global, among others.
