Dan Law practices exclusively in commercial real estate law. He is involved in a broad range of commercial real property acquisitions, dispositions and financings on behalf of REITs, pension funds, private developers and lenders. Dan has established a broad-based real estate practice, focused on the acquisition, disposition and financing of a wide range of commercial, industrial and investment properties, including hotels, long term care facilities, apartment buildings, funeral homes, and regional shopping centers. He has experience advising clients on the structuring of investments in real estate in Canada through joint ventures, co-ownerships, long-term ground leases, sale-leasebacks and other similar structures. Dan has acted in connection with the creation of Real Estate Investment Trusts and institutional real property funds, and has handled numerous sophisticated real estate transactions on behalf of REITs, pension funds, private developers and lenders. Acting for a number of financial institutions, Dan assists with the implementation of interim, construction, and permanent real estate financing. Dan has acted on behalf of landlords and tenants in the negotiation and preparation of retail, industrial, office and ground leases.
On March 6, 2015, a landlord group led by Ivanhoé Cambridge Inc. and Oxford Properties Group completed a transaction involving the termination of leases at 11 properties that had previously been leased by Target Canada Co. (Target), owner and operator of shopping centers, and a unit of Target Corp., for $138 million.
