A partner in the litigation practice, Matthew acts for significant public companies, private corporations and major Crown agencies on a wide range of high-stakes civil litigation matters, including commercial disputes, complex class actions, securities disputes, constitutional challenges, insolvency proceedings and novel tort claims. He has extensive experience as a trial and appellate advocate, including in numerous precedent-setting appeals before the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Matthew has enjoyed particular success in obtaining summary dismissal of actions against his clients. His reported cases include leading decisions in the areas of class actions, securities litigation, enforcement of foreign judgments, insolvency, freedom of speech, and solicitors’ duty of loyalty. Matthew clerked for the Honourable Mr. Justice Frank Iacobucci of the Supreme Court of Canada from 1999 to 2000.
