Shantona is a founding partner at Pape Chaudhury LLP. She acts for both individual and institutional clients in matters including commercial litigation, class actions, torts, professional discipline, professional negligence, administrative, constitutional, and national security law, and public inquiries. She has considerable experience in appeals, having argued over 40 appeals in the Ontario courts, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. In recognition of her advocacy skills, Shantona received The Advocates’ Society’s Douglas K. Laidlaw Award in 2023, and the Toronto Lawyers Association’s Honsberger Award in 2025. Shantona was Lead Counsel to the Foreign Interference Commission (the Hogue Inquiry), and co-Lead Counsel to the Public Order Emergency Commission (the Rouleau Inquiry). Shantona is ranked in Chambers Canada, Lexpert, Benchmark, and Best Lawyers. She is a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, and an honorary member of the commercial bar of England (COMBAR). Born and bred in Montreal, Shantona is fluent in French and is called to the bars in Ontario and Quebec (2007). She studied law at Oxford (BCL), McGill (BCL/LLB), and has an MA and a BAH from Queen’s University.
