Dentons brings in Kristyn Annis for corporate, energy groups

Dentons has welcomed new partner Kristyn Annis to its corporate and energy groups in Toronto.

Annis concentrates on power and utilities matters. She has worked on commercial transactions and mergers and acquisitions in the energy sector.

Over a legal career spanning over 20 years, the Lexpert-ranked lawyer has guided utilities, project developers, lenders, municipal shareholders, and government entities. She has tackled issues involving renewable generation, electricity transmission and distribution, and emerging energy technologies, such as electric vehicles, distributed energy resources, energy management solutions, and all forms of energy storage.

Annis has advised on matters related to emissions allowances, carbon offsets, renewable energy certificates, and other environmental attributes generated under federal and provincial greenhouse gas regulatory regimes. She has handled energy policy, emissions trading, and climate change matters.

Her clients have also included investors and senior government leaders.

“Kristyn’s experience advising on complex energy transactions adds a valuable dimension to our corporate practice. As activity continues to grow, clients increasingly need counsel who understand both the commercial and regulatory dynamics shaping major projects and investments,” said Andrea Johnson, Dentons’ national corporate group leader, in a statement.

National energy group leader Bernie Roth highlighted Annis’ experience guiding complex power projects and working with government on energy and climate policy, as well as her knowledge of Canada’s key electricity markets.

“This perspective allows her to help clients move energy projects forward in a market where policy and regulation play an increasingly important role,” Roth said.

National energy group leader Hazel Saffery pointed out that many consequential decisions impacting the current energy landscape are being made in the power and transmission space.

“Kristyn’s expertise further enhances our national team’s ability to support government organizations, private proponents and consumers as they navigate these fundamental shifts,” Saffery said.

Annis was previously a counsel at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in Toronto. She was among the lawyers recognized in Lexpert’s energy and mining special edition in 2024.
