Dentons Calgary has added to its banking and finance partnership with the appointments of Sunil Joneja, Alexandra Fox, and Scott McLeman.
The three new partners are experts in corporate lending, real estate finance, specialty finance, and cross-border transactions. Joneja and McLeman were partners at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP, while Fox was a senior associate at Carey Olsen, according to LinkedIn.
Sunil Joneja
Joneja is a Lexpert-ranked lawyer in the “banking & financial institutions” category. He has almost 30 years of experience handling complex cross-border syndicated and bilateral debt financing, derivatives, and innovative structured finance transactions.
He has worked on over-the-counter commodity, cross-currency, and interest rate hedging transactions. His clients have included banks, borrowers, and financial institutions.
Joneja spent four years at Cassels, according to LinkedIn.
Scott McLeman
McLeman has worked on secured and unsecured lending transactions involving asset-based facilities and complex cross-border financings. He has also tackled private mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance issues.
His clients have included lenders, borrowers, and financial institutions. He has advised on the sales of private businesses, the incorporation, reorganization, and dissolution of companies, and guided shareholders, officers, and directors. He has also handled commercial real estate acquisitions and sales.
At Cassels, McLeman practised with the banking and specialty finance group, concentrating on financial services, real estate, and diversified lending matters.
Alexandra Fox
Fox has handled complex domestic and multi-jurisdictional lending transactions like bilateral and syndicated facilities. She has advised financial institutions, private lenders, and borrowers.
She began her legal career at Miller Thomson LLP as a summer law student and later as an associate. She moved on to a corporate attorney role with BeesMont Law Limited in Bermuda.
Before Fox went into law, she was a stunt double, sports journalist, and real estate assistant.
“We are bringing in a full-service team of accomplished professionals who are at the top of their game in corporate lending, real estate finance and cross-border transactions,” said Ryan Middleton, Dentons’ national banking and finance group leader, of the new partners.
Calgary managing partner John Cusano added that Calgary was “one of the most dynamic legal markets in the country.”
Earlier this month, Dentons boosted its real estate team with the additions of Michael Kershaw and Kamil Umar.
