The Corporate Legal Operations Consortium tackled the evolving legal operations environment at its 2025 CLOC Australia Summit on August 20.

The Sydney event also discussed career growth, generative artificial intelligence and emerging technology, and adaptability. Speakers included CLOC’s Australia group co-leads Matt Duncan, Katrina Gowans, and Anna Golovsky.

Duncan is the legal operations head at Australian road operations company Transurban, while Golovsky is executive manager of legal and company secretariat operations at general insurance company IAG.

Todd Sampson, who writes and hosts Australian television series “Redesign My Brain”, delivered the keynote address, which referenced innovation and human potential and included practical techniques to improve creativity and brain power. In addition to his television work, Sampson is known as a documentary creator, adventurer, and business leader.

“CLOC is about community, and this year’s theme, ‘Open New Doors,’ underscored our dedication to revitalizing connections within the region. By strengthening these ties, we can better embrace new approaches, enhance efficiency, and collectively work to transform the global legal landscape,” Duncan said in a statement.

The CLOC also conducted Core 12 Curriculum courses for legal operations leaders under the CLOC Academy the day before the summit at the Sydney office of global firm Allens.

“Our focus is clear: expanding perspectives, advancing careers, and empowering the regional ecosystem with the insights and connections needed to thrive. This year’s summit introduced fresh formats and forward-thinking topics, all designed to help legal ops leaders expand their impact and shape the future of legal operations across the region,” said Adam Becker, who leads the CLOC’s education advisory council (EAC) and sits on the consortium’s board.

Becker is also Cockroach Labs’ legal operations director.

Duncan, Gowens, and Golovsky coordinated with the EAC to develop the summit's program. On October 2, the CLOC will hold the CLOC España Summit in Madrid.
