Michelle F. Yung has joined McCarthy Tétrault’s real estate group in Calgary as a partner.
She makes the jump from Bennett Jones, where she was a partner for over four years. She has worked with landlords, tenants, and property managers throughout Western Canada.
The Lexpert-ranked lawyer has tackled matters involving the shopping centre, retail, office, mixed-use, and industrial sectors. She has handled issues across all aspects of commercial real estate.
Yung has advised on commercial leasing; the financing, acquisition and disposition of real estate assets; and rezoning, subdivision, development, and building permit processes. She has also represented bidders, contractors, and public authorities on the development of large infrastructure projects.
She assisted a Europe-based investor as it acquired mixed-use office and retail complex The Post. She also advised a logistics and warehousing company on its pickup of a large industrial property in downtown Vancouver for $150 million.
Moreover, Yung helped a property owner negotiate with ICBC on the lease for a ~165,000 square foot headquarters within a new mass timber office development.

Yung served as legal counsel at The Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited from 2014 to 2016, according to LinkedIn. She also logged stints at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, where she was an associate, and at Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy, where she was an articled student.
Lexpert featured Yung in its Special Edition on Global Mining. She is also a repeatedly recommended lawyer in the category of “real estate – commercial leasing.”
She was called to the Alberta bar this year and to the British Columbia bar in 2014. She holds a JD from Dalhousie University and a BA from the University of British Columbia.
In addition to her legal practice, Yung is a volunteer clinician with the Access Pro Bono Society of BC. She also sits on the Atira Women’s Resource Society board.
