Thornton Grout Finnigan LLP (TGF) recently congratulated its partner D. J. Miller, whom Lexpert has recognized as a leading lawyer in insolvency and restructuring, for her election as president of the International Insolvency Institute (III).
A limited membership organization spanning over 50 countries, the III unites practitioners, judges, and scholars experienced in international insolvency law and practice. Dr. Stephan Madaus of Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in Germany chairs the III this year.
The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory has featured Miller as a consistently recommended lawyer in the areas of insolvency litigation and financial restructuring. The 2025 Lexpert Special Edition on Canada’s Leading Insolvency and Restructuring Lawyers also features her.

According to her biography on TGF’s website, Miller’s knowledge and experience have covered national and multi-jurisdictional restructuring matters, as well as domestic and international insolvency frameworks. She has appeared as counsel at all Canadian court levels.
Her client base has included lenders, companies in financial distress, landlords, and court-appointed monitors and receivers. She has also assisted lawyers, financial advisors, and stakeholders from other jurisdictions with Canadian and cross-border matters.
Beyond her legal practice, Miller has served on the boards and executive committees of professional organizations, spoken regularly at conferences, and authored papers on various issues impacting her clients.
She has taught as a guest lecturer and developed course materials on insolvency law at Ontario law schools. She gained admission to the Ontario bar in 1993. She earned her LLB from the University of Windsor in 1991 and her BA (honours) from the University of Western Ontario in 1988.

According to a recent update from the Insolvency Institute of Canada (IIC), its board of directors has approved the following new members:
