Osler welcomes Olivier Fournier as tax litigation partner in Toronto, Montréal

Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP has welcomed former Deloitte Legal partner Olivier Fournier as a partner in its national tax group.

Fournier operates across Toronto and Montréal. He concentrates on tax litigation and controversy and has worked on complex tax audits and disputes both in and out of court.

He has appeared before the federal and Québec courts in relation to tax matters, including at the appellate level. His client base spans Canada and overseas.

Fournier was once Canadian Tax Foundation governor and was named a Rising Star by Lexpert in 2020. Lexpert also recognized him in its litigation - corporate tax and corporate tax categories.

At Deloitte Legal, he was a tax disputes and litigation partner and lawyer from September 2014 until this May, working from Montréal as per LinkedIn. He also logged a stint with Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, making partner at that firm in January 2010 before he departed in August 2014.

Fournier has spoken and authored works regarding major tax issues in Canada. He obtained his degrees at the University of Ottawa, including his LL.L, MBA, and bachelor of science. He is fluent in English and Frenchh.

He was called to the Barreau du Québec and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, The Advocates’ Society, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Association de planification fiscale et financière.

Osler tax controversy practice leader Al Meghji described Fournier as “a highly regarded tax litigator with a strong reputation for sound judgment and strategic insight.”

Last October, Osler bolstered its energy group in Calgary by luring George Antonopoulos and Mauryah McLaughlin from Dentons. Antonopoulos had been Dentons’ national and global energy sector lead at the time while McLaughlin specialized in private mergers and acquisitions.

Osler also confirmed its involvement in La Caisse’s recent $1.26 billion investment in TELUS wireless tower subsidiary Terrion.
