Andrea Johnson, Thomas Redekopp to co-lead Dentons Canada’s national corporate group

Dentons Canada has appointed partners Andrea Johnson (Ottawa) and Thomas Redekopp (Toronto) as co-leads of its national corporate group.

Johnson has set on the firm’s global board and its Canada region board, while Redekopp is on the national management committee. Both partners bring significant experience in mergers and acquisitions.

Johnson has been ranked by Lexpert in the corporate mid-market, corporate commercial law, corporate finance and securities, private equity, M&A, and technology transactions categories. She has spearheaded the acquisitions of private targets for PE and strategic buyers, take-privates, IPOs and major venture capital transactions in Canada.

She has helped develop novel structures and approaches for Canadian and cross-border transactions. She worked with Absorb Software Inc. on the $59 million growth equity investment led by Silversmith Capital Partners and on the subsequent sale to Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe at an enterprise value exceeding US$500 million.

Johnson advised AngelList on its platform launch in Canada as the first company to receive authorization via the OSC’s fintech launchpad. She was also the Canadian counsel for Spectrum Equity on its $515 million equity and debt recapitalization of financial crime management company Verafin.

She has been part of advisory committees for the Ontario Securities Commission, the Toronto Stock Exchange, and to the Ontario Government on business law modernization.

Thomas Redekopp

In addition to co-leading the national corporate group, Redekopp is also the Toronto corporate group’s co-leader. He concentrates on public and private US M&A and capital markets transactions.

He has handled issues involving US securities law, corporate law, contract law, and corporate governance. He has supported boards of directors, special committees and transaction committees in structuring M&A and in handling actual and potential conflicts of interest.

Redekopp’s clients have included NYSE-listed Unitil Corporation, Motorola Solutions, Inc., ADRM Software, Inc., and Blackboard Inc. He has acted for organizations in the technology, life sciences, utilities, renewable and clean energy, food and beverage, and construction sectors; he has also tackled matters in the education technology, health technology, information technology, technology consulting, enterprise software, electronics, photonics, and specialty materials subsectors.

He is a foreign legal consultant in Ontario and has been admitted to practise in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
