Nexen Completes Note Offering

On March 11, 2002, Nexen Inc. completed a US$500 million offering of 7.875 per cent notes due on March 15, 2032. Nexen, formerly Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd., is a global energy and chemicals producer incorporated under the laws of Canada. The offering was underwritten by Banc of America Securities LLC and Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown.

Nexen was represented by Canadian in-house counsel Rick Beingessner. Also representing Nexen was Bennett Jones LLP in Calgary, with a team that included John Burns, Q.C., Don Boykiw, Phil Backman, Will Osler, Paul Bolger and Tom McInerney. Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in the U.S. represented Nexen, with a team including Edwin Maynard, Daniel Miller, Heather Reid and David Schnier.
