Ontario, Ukraine securities groups share knowledge via webinar series

Through a webinar series hosted by the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) for the National Securities and Stock Market Commission of Ukraine (NSSMC), staff members from both commissions had the opportunity to exchange knowledge, experiences, and perspectives regarding regulatory matters.

“The OSC values opportunities to engage and share knowledge with regulatory partners around the world,” said Grant Vingoe, the OSC’s chief executive officer, in a news release.

“Cooperation with leading international peers like the OSC is of immense value to the Ukrainian regulator,” added Kateryna Protsenko, deputy director of the NSSMC’s International Relations and European Integration Coordination Department.

Regulatory approaches and issues covered

According to the OSC’s news release, through the three-part webinar series, representatives from the two organizations addressed regulatory approaches to investor protection, market integrity, and issuer disclosure, as well as common problems that cropped up in their distinct jurisdictions.

“By sharing experiences and discussing emerging risks and regulatory approaches, our organizations have strengthened a relationship that supports our shared commitment to investor protection, market integrity and confidence in capital markets,” Vingoe said.

“This knowledge-sharing series provided our team with practical tools and modern perspectives on critical supervisory areas, from combating cross-border fraud to addressing emerging market risks,” Protsenko added.

OSC leads three-part webinar series

The OSC’s Investor Office and Enforcement Division spearheaded the first two sessions, which centred on investor protection and engagement, investment fraud, financial literacy, and cross-border regulatory risks.

The OSC’s Corporate Finance Division hosted the final session, which delved into financial reporting, continuous disclosure requirements, “AI washing,” and other emerging issues.

“We sincerely appreciate the solidarity and dedication of the OSC team and consider this an important step in strengthening our long-term regulatory partnership,” Protsenko said.

“We are also grateful to the NSSMC for their perspectives on issues that are increasingly important across both our jurisdictions,” Vingoe added in the OSC’s news release
