Rhonda Goldberg re-elected to CIRO’s board for two-year term

IGM Financial Inc. general counsel and executive team member Rhonda Goldberg has been re-elected to the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization’s board for another two-year-term.

Goldberg is an industry director with the board and sits on CIRO’s finance, audit, and risk committee. She possesses significant knowledge of the securities regulatory environment and the asset and wealth management industry.

She supervises the the legal, compliance, corporate secretarial and client and regulatory affairs functions at IG Wealth Management and Mackenzie Investments. Prior to joining IGM Financial, she was part of the Ontario Securities Commission’s executive management and served as director of investment funds and structured products.

Goldberg was recently appointed to the inaugural cohort of the OSC’s new Capital Markets Advisory Committee. According to CIRO board chair Miranda Hubbs, Goldberg would help guide CIRO through her regulation and asset and wealth management expertise.

Marc Provost joins CIRO board

In addition to Goldberg’s re-appointment, the CIRO board also welcomed new independent director Marc Provost.

Like Goldberg, Provost will remain in his role for two years. The financial sector expert retired five years previously, having held a variety of senior leadership roles at various organizations.

He was vice-president and co-chief investment officer - public markets and corporate strategy at Desjardins Global Asset Management. He was also Intact’s senior vice-president, managing director, and chief investment officer’ moreover, he served as Canadian equity market vice president at the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec.

Provost currently sits on the management committee for Financial Assets of the Fonds de solidarité des travailleurs du Québec. In addition, he is on Echo Foundation’s audit and investment committee.

“Marc's expertise in global asset management, corporate strategy, leadership and board governance, will also bring valuable insight to the board as we continue to strengthen investor protection and foster confidence in Canada's capital markets,” said Hubbs in a statement.

Last year, CIRO absorbed registration functions and powers from the securities regulatory authorities of Alberta, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Yukon. The delegation of this function enhances Canadian Securities Administrators members’ oversight of CIRO.
