Women General Counsel Canada has launched the WGCC Career Transition Forum, which is geared towards supporting women general counsel going through career transitions within the legal profession.
The forum will provide networking and coaching opportunities as well as resources. Its kickoff event, an executive resume workshop for senior legal professionals, will take place on June 23.
The workshop is targeted towards those considering new career opportunities or preparing for upcoming career transitions. Participants will receive executive resume assistance customized to senior legal roles. They will also glean insights on recruiter and board-level hiring as well as GC and CLO-level positioning strategies.
Executive career management practitioner Martin Buckland has been announced as the workshop’s featured speaker. Buckland has worked with EMBA graduates and logged stints at TRIUM Global Executive MBA and BlueSteps. He founded Elite Resumes and has presented at leadership conferences.
He is a master resume writer, certified corporate executive coach, certified LinkedIn trainer, personal branding strategist, and job and career transition coach. He has presented to 23 EMBA programs internationally.
Buckland has advised C-suite executives and senior executives in over 70 countries for over three decades. He has worked with general counsel and senior legal leaders on transitioning in-house, departing GC roles, and pursuing executive openings.
He was once a detective/constable with London’s Metropolitan Police Service and was on the Scotland Yard Anti-Terrorism Squad. He also worked with the RCMP.
WGCC said the hour-long virtual workshop would be open to all members. It closes the registration window on June 8.
The group urged participants to stay after the workshop for a kickoff session at which more information about the forum and future networking opportunities will be disclosed.
The WGCC Career Transition Forum mandate is “to support & connect women GCs during their career transitions as they seek re-employment within the legal industry through networking, sharing resources and coaching/guidance.” The WGCC also recently rolled out a four-part masterclass series entitled “Elevating from the Legal Seat to the Board Table,” which will be delivered by Watson Board Advisors.
In February, Kenvue head of law and corporate secretary (Canada) Heather L Mullen was appointed WGCC board chair for a second year.
