He has been involved in many of the leading M&A and corporate finance transactions in the resources sector in recent years, including First Quantum’s successful C$5.1-billion unsolicited acquisition of Inmet, Coeur Mining’s superior proposal to acquire Orko Silver, Oryx Petroleum's C$250-million IPO, AuRico Gold’s C$1.5-billion acquisition of Northgate, Addax Petroleum’s C$9-billion sale to Sinopec, and IAMGOLD's C$600-million acquisition of Trelawney. His clients have included issuers or the underwriters in capital markets or M&A transactions involving resources companies active throughout Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe. He has successfully acted for the financial arranger or sponsor of several global major resources projects. John is consistently recognized in the world’s leading legal publications as a leading lawyer for mining, energy and natural resources law. He is a recipient of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal. John was called to the Ontario Bar in 1989.
