Michel is a partner with extensive experience focusing on M&A, private equity, venture capital, and corporate finance transactions, in addition to joint ventures, restructurings, and other complex transactions across a broad range of industries. A significant part of his practice involves cross-border transactions, and he regularly advises US, European, and other international companies doing business in Canada. Earlier in his career, he practised corporate and securities law in New York. He is recognized as a leading practitioner by The Lexpert®/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada; Lexpert® Special Edition — Finance and M&A; Lexpert® Special Edition — Technology; The Best Lawyers in Canada;IFLR1000; Who’s Who Legal: Canada; and Martindale-Hubbell. He is a member of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association where he co-Chairs the International Expansion and Cross-Border Transactions Subcommittee. He has written and lectured on corporate and securities law matters at various forums and taught business law courses at the University of Québec in Montréal.
On May 1, 2018, Scotiabank announced the completion of its $950 million acquisition of Jarislowsky, Fraser Ltd. to create the third-largest Canadian active asset manager with $166 billion in assets under management (as of December 31, 2017).
