Former Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg partner Natasha MacParland has jumped to Dentons to lead its restructuring, insolvency, and bankruptcy group in Toronto.
MacParland will also be co-leading the national group alongside Robert J. Kennedy. The new partner brings over 27 years of experience, over 21 of which were gleaned at Davies.
“When businesses face their most complex financial challenges, they need counsel that is experienced, decisive and commercially sharp. Natasha brings that in abundance, and her relationships with some of North America's most sophisticated investors and institutions reflect the confidence the market has in her,” said Blair McCreadle, Dentons’ Toronto managing partner, in a statement.
MacParland has tackled matters involving deal structuring and lending, debt restructuring, bankruptcy and insolvency, corporate debtor/creditor rights enforcement, turnarounds, workouts, plans of arrangement under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act, proposals and bankruptcies under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, distressed businesses and assets, and investment solicitation. Her clients have included debtors, lenders, court-appointed officers, trustees, private equity sponsors, and acquirers.
She has handled multi-jurisdictional matters requiring collaboration with stakeholders across Canada, the US, and Europe. She advised a lender syndicate on a US$1 billion secured note issuance by a major Canadian mining company; she also served as counsel for an Australian energy company as it acquired an interest in an offshore joint venture and related proceedings under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act.
The Lexpert-ranked lawyer also acted as counsel for a private equity real estate firm as it acquired and financed a major Canadian film studio. Moreover, she was lead counsel to FTI Consulting Canada Inc., the court-appointed CCAA monitor and CCAA plan administrator of Imperial Tobacco and its affiliates, in the matter of Canadian Tobacco’s restructuring under the CCAA – a deal that won Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year at the Canadian Law Awards this year.
In November 2025, she spoke on distressed mergers and acquisitions at the International Bar Association’s Annual Conference.
“The restructuring and insolvency landscape is evolving rapidly, and the most compelling work is increasingly cross-border and complex,” MacParland said in a statement.
National restructuring, insolvency and bankruptcy group leader John Sandrelli highlighted MacParland’s “track record on landmark mandates across Canada and internationally” which Sandrelli said granted MacParland a rare perspective.
