John Lorito is a partner and Head of the Tax Group. He conducts a general income tax practice with particular emphasis in the areas of corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, investment funds, REITs, and international tax planning. He has advised extensively on tax issues relating to non-resident investment in Canada, including investments in Canadian real estate. John has acted as counsel on federal and provincial income tax appeals before the Federal Court of Appeal and the Ontario Court (General Division). He is recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada, Chambers Global, Chambers Canada, The Legal 500 Canada, and The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory, among others. John has written and spoken extensively on numerous topics. He has been an adjunct professor teaching Corporate Tax at the University of Toronto and was previously a lecturer at Western University. John is a member of the Canadian Bar Association (Taxation Law Section), Canadian Tax Foundation, American Bar Association, and International Fiscal Association. He is a former member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants/Canadian Bar Association Joint Committee on Taxation and the Insurance Bureau of Canada's Tax Panel.
