Represent private and public corporations, from family-owned or closely-held enterprises to large, multinational corporations, as well as entrepreneurial individuals, financial institutions, private equity firms, securities dealers and advisers, and investment funds. Assist foreign businesses in establishing business operations in Canada.  

Commercial & Civil Litigation: (Contact: Anthony Scane) Expertise in shareholder and partner disputes, commercial arbitrations, construction litigation, mortgage enforcement and real estate disputes, professional liability, health law, medical malpractice and the civil prosecution of sexual assault cases. Evaluate the risks and anticipated costs while aggressively pursuing clients’ causes before court or in settlement negotiations.  

Commercial Real Estate: (Contact: Aaron English) Help clients develop business strategies for buying, financing, developing, selling and leasing property. Integrate real estate expertise with business law, planning law, tax law, mortgage and financing law, creditor and debtor law, partnership and syndication law, landlord and tenant law and litigation—all as they relate to real estate transactions and consulting.  

Construction Law: (Contact: Gregory D. Hersen) Extensive knowledge and experience in all areas of construction litigation, acting for owners, developers, contractors and subcontractors in disputes before all levels of court.  

Corporate Finance & Securities: (Contact: Andrew Wilder) Assist clients with strategic planning, structuring and implementing transactions, including private placements and public offerings of securities, mergers & acquisitions, divestitures, corporate reorganizations, and capital pool company (CPC) transactions. Represent private and public issuers in raising capital and regulatory compliance matters. Act as counsel for many foreign clients in Canadian aspects of public transactions.  

Employment & Labour Relations: (Contact: Daniel Pugen) Advise in all aspects of the legal relationship between employer and employee. Represent a broad range of both unionized and non-unionized clients in both private and public sectors. Conduct collective bargaining, and regularly appear as counsel before court, and all labour relations and employment administrative tribunals.  

Family Law: (Contact: Adam Black) One of the largest and most experienced Family Law groups in Ontario, with substantial expertise in both trial and appellate work. Assist in property, custody, and access disputes, paternity disputes, adoption, marriage contracts, child and spousal support claims, separation and co-habitation agreements, divorce and annulment, same sex issues and child protection. Also offer Mediation and Arbitration services.  

Financial Services & Corporate Recovery: (Contact: Andrew Biderman) In-depth understanding of the financial marketplace, representing institutional and other lenders and borrowers in all aspects of secured loan transactions. Advise on regulatory issues concerning the banking industry in general. Represent creditors and debtors in times of crisis regarding reorganizations, restructurings, workouts and insolvency matters.  

Insurance Defence: (Contact: Mark B. Harrington) Extensive experience defending liability claims in property, casualty and environmental claims, including litigating fraudulent or questionable claims, bodily injury defence, accident benefits, commercial liability, arson and claims against professionals.  

Tax, Trusts & Estates: (Contacts: Kay Leung, Risa Awerbuck) Work with clients to develop plans that are sensitive to tax and other issues affecting investments, business, partners, shareholders, trusts and families. Help clients with the corporate and personal aspects of estate planning, as well as estate administration and litigation.  

Technology, Privacy & Data Management: (Contact: Lisa R. Lifshitz) Services include technology-related agreements, CASL compliance advice, intellectual property protection, joint venture arrangements, procurement matters, and the purchase and sale of technology companies or assets. Expertise in the unique challenges of cloud computing, with its questions of data security, ownership and jurisdiction. Assist Canadian and international clients with privacy compliance programs, data breach management and privacy training. Often advise national and international clients on privacy issues during corporate transactions and negotiations, trans-border data transfers, and intra-corporate data transfers. Assist in privacy due diligence in cross-border and cross-provincial transactions.
